A group led by Diane Amble paid the expenses for Lassie, 'Timmy' (Jon Provost) and Rudd Weatherwax, Lassie's trainer, to come to
Sacramento to testify against California's AB 1634, the mandatory spay/neuter bill. The total was over $3500. Diane

The Purple Apron Project

Grooming Aprons and Towels embroidered with 'Fight Anti-Pet Legislation. It Affects Us All"

Good: The 20-Minute Package

The absolute fastest way to get this job done is through the NAIA Trust Legislative Action Center. You don't even have to be able to write well!

Go to the NAIA Trust site legislative action center at http://capwiz.com/naiatrust/home/

Enter your zip code next to CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT and click GO.

You'll be writing to your three legislators -- two senators and a congressman. You can write to them separately, with different letters for each. You can compose your own letter and send it to all three. Or you can write all three using talking points provided on the site. After you write your legislators, you'll write the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. This whole process takes about 20 minutes.

~~ To write to your three legislators separately, just choose one to write first and follow the directions at the site.

~~ To compose your own letter and send it to all three legislators
Look in the box above their pictures for the sentence that says Write to ALL of your representatives with one click. Click that link. On the next page, choose the three congressmen and scroll down to the box.

For the subject line, write Please oppose SB1139 and HB2669!

In the form box, compose your letter.

Close and sign, and be sure to fill in your personal information. Legislators discard letters that are anonymous or cannot be verified as being from constituents..

Click SEND NOW.

You'll receive a confirmation and have the opportunity to send another letter.

~~ If you want to use pre-written talking points in a letter to all three legislators, you'll have to do a quick, easy work-around. Here's how:

Go to the NAIA Trust site legislative action center at http://capwiz.com/naiatrust/home/

Enter your zip code next to CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT and click GO.

On the next page, click EMAIL under one of the senators' names/photos.

Now select Please Oppose SB1139/HB2669 Pet Animal Welfare Statute 2005 and click NEXT STEP.

Here's the work-around. On the next page, scroll down to the box labeled TALKING POINTS. Highlight the ones you'd like to use and press CTRL C to copy them to your clipboard. Now click the "back" button in your browser twice. This gets you back to the pictures of your legislators..

In the box above their pictures. look for the sentence that says Write to ALL of your representatives with one click. Click that link. On the next page, choose all except President Bush and scroll down to the box.

For the subject line, write Please oppose SB1139 and HB2669!

Move your cursor to the form box and press CTRL V. This copies the clipboard contents into your letter. You should make a few changes to customize the talking points and add a paragraph telling who you are ("I breed Flat Island Zorchers in Bugville.") It's important that this not appear to be a form letter.

Close and sign, and be sure to fill in your personal information. Legislators discard letters that are anonymous or cannot be verified as being from constituents.

Click SEND MESSAGE

If you are asked to select an issue, select ANIMAL WELFARE. Click SEND MESSAGE.

Next is a confirmation screen and the question, DO YOU WANT TO SEND ANOTHER MESSAGE?

~~ For your last email, click here. This will take you to an email form for Senator Saxby Chambliss (R/GA), who is chairman of the Agriculture Committee. Check the box next to his name and in the subject line, write: Please OPPOSE S 1139!

Now move to the message box and press CTRL V again to insert your talking points into this message. (If you have used copy and paste for something since you copied the talking points, click here to return to the NAIA Trust page, highlight and copy them again.)

Edit and personalize to make this an individual letter, not a form letter.

Close and sign your letter and fill in your address and phone number.

Indicate whether you will allow your letter to be displayed on the website.

At the bottom of the page is a authentication box; copy the letters from the graphic.into the box provided. Click SEND MESSAGE.

Now you have an opportunity to provide some personal information as a "message booster." It's optional. Either fill it in and click NEXT STEP or don't, and click the NO THANKS button.

The next screen tells you to select an issue from the drop down menu. Select ANIMAL WELFARE, choose EMAIL, and then SEND MESSAGE.

And you're done! You've just taken a first step in fighting PAWS!
